Check for broken links on a website, and also affiliate links

And always remind yourself to check for broken links on a website.

Also check ALL of your links in your pages and posts. Make sure you do not have any broken links, as by doing so you will definitely be losing potential commissions.

In other words, don’t leave your hard earned money on the table!

Check your product reviews

Most important, CHECK YOUR PRODUCT REVIEWS FIRST to make sure you have added ALL of your affiliate links, and to make sure that any of those links are not broken or were inadvertently misdirected to the wrong page, opt-in, or offer.

There are affiliate links within this post. What this means is that if you decide to purchase anything through one of my links, I'll be rewarded with a small commission at absolutely no extra cost to you. This small commission helps me run and maintain my website.

Use a Link Checker or Manual Method

You can do this either using a link checker, or by doing this with a manual method. Obviously if you have over one hundred posts, you might want to use a link checker to save yourself much needed time.

Now I consider myself to be very methodical and careful when I am initially adding my affiliate links.

So here is an eye-opener.

Link Checker

I just spent an hour or so reviewing my blog posts and I noticed there were STILL MANY missing affiliate links in my posts, Then in the process of my tedious but necessary inspection, I also noticed that a few of my affiliate links were being misdirected.

Thank Goodness, they are all CORRECTED Now!

Ever since I’ve learned my valuable hard-earned lesson, now every time I log into my site, I will definitely be checking them.

check for broken links on a website, make link checking a habit

Check for Broken Links on a Website: Make Link Checking a Habit

I will certainly be rechecking all of my posts and pages as I am going along for now on - let's say every 5-10 posts I will create and publish. My intention is to then go back and peruse all of them carefully by checking those links individually.

Recently reaching 111 posts, I have now decided to begin using a link checker.

When you can do 5-10 posts at a time consistently, it makes your job a lot easier. I can get this done now in less than 1 Hour, and it is time that is highly WELL SPENT.

This is what I have found to be most comfortable for me - but please you do what is most comfortable for you.

And don't forget to have certain pages open in a new window = less bounce rate. Many eyes do not like to hit the back button. Great reminder, Kaju. Thank you. – Anonymous

100% agree with your sentiments on that one Kaju, just had an issue around that this week, a signup form that went nowhere. No one liked me or so I thought lol. Definitely going to look at establishing maintenance and checking regimes, to keep on top of things. Like yesterday. A very timely reminder. Thank you, sir. – Anonymous

Check!

One thing we all forget I think Kaju. This would be especially so for many older posts where the link may go to a defunct company. As links don't go through spellcheck in the normal way it is very easy to mistype and someone else to get your commissions. – Anonymous

Yes. True Kaju. I was utterly surprised how many broken links that I had inadvertently accumulating site wide. It took a while to tend to them all. 70+ links. Yikes! But I have eventually caught up as of a couple weeks ago. It wouldn't hurt for me to check them again within the next day or so. Thanks for the reminder! – Anonymous

In the time I am here now over a 2 and a half year period, I have come to understand that a website is a living thing. It can change from one moment to the other, behave strangely and you have to keep running after it. As I rotate my posts and give them up for additional comments, I have now come to the habit of checking the darn post from head to toe and sometimes I am in for a surprise.

I wrote a post recently on 404 errors, it was quite an adventure. The problem is as the website grows the amount of work involved gets bigger, and bigger. Well, anyhow, there is never a dull moment. Greetings from the south of Spain. - Anonymous

This should be a habit of an online entrepreneur because little things get altered in the themes or somewhere else. - Anonymous
